MS Hotkeys, Tips and Hints 

Following are basic Windows hotkeys that work with a lot of different applications!

Windows Hot keys

Windows key + D will go to desktop

Then you can go to icons with arrow or the first letter of the icon (Picture of program) to open the program press enter.

ALT + F4 key will close any program.

While in Microsoft Word and other programs the following hot keys will work.

ALT + TAB will allow you to navigate to other open programs. Hold down the ALT key and tab until you hear program you want to be focused on. Then let go of the ALT and that program will snap into focus.

CTRL + TAB will let you navigate to other tabs in Internet explorer and multi tabbed dialog boxes.

SOME WINDOW HOT KEYS BY ROW

Look at your keyboard and I will go according to keyboard row

Bottom Row:

Ctrl + z undoes whatever you just did

Ctrl + x cuts copy you have selected

Ctrl + C copies selection to the virtual clipboard to be pasted somewhere else

Ctrl + V Pastes whatever is on virtual clipboard

Ctrl + B Bolds whatever was highlighted or every thing you now type. This is a toggle-do it once to turn it on, again to turn it off.

Ctrl + N will start up a new document

Ctrl + M Increase Indents

Second Row:

Ctrl + A selects everything on the screen in the program you are in.

Ctrl+ S saves the document

Ctrl + D opens the font dialog box.

Ctrl + F Opens the find dialog box

Ctrl + G Opens go to dialog box

Ctrl + H opens find and replace dialog box

Ctrl + J Justifies text selected

Ctrl + K opens insert link dialog box

Ctrl + L left justifies selected text or text from the cursor

 

Top Row:

Ctrl + Q to quit application

Ctrl + W close window

Ctrl + E center text selected or from cursor

Ctrl + R right justify text selected or from the cursor right

Ctrl + T creates a hanging indent

Ctrl + Y redoes opposite of undo (Ctrl Z)

Ctrl + U underlines selected text or from cursor. This is a toggle. Do it again to turn off.

Ctrl + I Italicizes selected text or from the cursor on. Also a toggle.

Ctrl + O will open the “Open dialog” box

Ctrl + P will open ”Print dialog box ”
